What is the Family Tax Benefit Part B Supplement?
The Family Tax Benefit Part B Supplement is a payment to families eligible to receive Family Tax Benefit Part B at any time during the income year. It is paid per family as a lump sum after the end of the income year.
The supplement is an ongoing payment that is indexed in July each year.
Can I get the Family Tax Benefit Part B Supplement?
The supplement is available to all Family Tax Benefit Part B eligible families regardless of whether they are entitled to a top-up, have been overpaid during the year or there is no adjustment. The amount of supplement payable may vary depending on family income or circumstances. However, where families have been overpaid, the supplement will be used to offset outstanding overpayments. The supplement can also be used to offset any debts incurred with the Australian Taxation Office.
What if I only have care of a child for part of the year?
If you have care for a child for part of the year (shared care), you will receive a portion of the supplement in line with the proportion of time the child was in your care. This may apply to a range of circumstances, including where a new baby is born during the year or when a child has a birthday part way through the year and ceases to be an eligible dependent.
How do I get Family Tax Benefit Part B Supplement?
Only families who are eligible to receive the Family Tax Benefit Part B can receive the Family Tax Benefit B supplement. You do not have to make a separate claim for the supplement as the payment will be made automatically after the end of the financial year when you and/or your partner (if you have one) have lodged your income tax return, or advised the Family Assistance Office you are not required to lodge a return.
