Reduce your risk of being overpaid
To help reduce your chance of having a Child Care Benefit overpayment after the end of the financial year, you can change the way you get your Child Care Benefit at any time.
- If you need to increase your income estimate you can ask us to adjust your Child Care Benefit percentage for the rest of the year to reduce or recover any amounts you may already have been overpaid. Each time you change your income estimate, we will check to see if you have already been overpaid and adjust your rate if necessary.
- You can choose to get the zero rate of Child Care Benefit as reduced fees during the year and any entitlement after the end of the financial year when your family's income is known.
- You can ask us to round your Child Care Benefit percentage down to the nearest whole number. This will make it easier for your child care centre to administer Child Care Benefit. When your payment is reconciled after the end of the financial year, if you have been overpaid, the extra amount will go towards reducing the overpayment. If you have been underpaid, the extra amount will be paid to you as a top-up.
