Can we leave Australia and still be paid Family Tax Benefit Part A?

If you are entitled to receive Family Tax Benefit Part A for a child, and you or the child want to leave Australia on a temporary basis, your payment may be affected.

You may be paid more than the base rate of Family Tax Benefit Part A if you or the child is absent from Australia for less than 13 weeks.

If the absence is more than 13 weeks, but less than 3 years, you may only be paid the base rate of Family Tax Benefit Part A.

You must notify us of any temporary absences before you or the child leave Australia to continue to be paid for this period. If you would like further information, you can contact us.
