Child support (maintenance) you pay
Child support is a payment you, or your current partner, pay to support your natural or adopted child from a previous relationship. It includes:
- private child support - any amount you pay directly to another person (either as a result of a court order or a private agreement)
- any child support you pay through the Child Support Agency (CSA)
- 'Non-cash' child support - for example, school fees, rent/mortgage payment
- other amounts - which are not part of a property settlement.
You should keep proof of the child support you pay as you may be asked to show evidence of this amount.
