Annually
You can be paid your Family Tax Benefit as a lump sum after the end of the income year. To be paid annually you need to:
- Lodge a claim
To get Family Tax Benefit you must lodge a claim with the Family Assistance Office within the two years following the end of the income year for which you are claiming. For example, if you are claiming a lump sum for the 2006-2007 income year, you will need to lodge your claim by 30 June 2009.
- Lodge your tax return
You need to lodge your tax return to be paid your Family Tax Benefit Part A as a lump sum.
- Keep accurate records
You must keep accurate records when claiming Family Tax Benefit as a lump sum. You should keep records on:- Shared care arrangements
- Changes to shared care arrangements
- Changes to your personal circumstances.
Claiming through the Australian Taxation Office
The Government has announced that subject to the passage of legislation, the option of claiming and receiving annual lump sum payments of Family Tax Benefit from the Australian Taxation Office will cease from 1 July 2009. The last income year the Australian Taxation Office can process Family Tax Benefit claims and payments is for the 2007-08 income year.If you are claiming a lump sum from the Australian Taxation Office for the 2006-2007 income year, you will need to lodge your claim by 30 June 2009.
If you are claiming a lump sum for the 2007-2008 income year you will need to lodge your claim with the Australian Taxation Office by 30 June 2009, otherwise you can claim through the Family Assistance Office until 30 June 2010.
