Health care cards
How do I get a Health Care Card?
If you are receiving the maximum rate of Family Tax Benefit Part A in fortnightly payments, you will automatically be issued a Health Care Card, which also lists your dependants. However if your income exceeds the limit for payment of the maximum rate of Family Tax Benefit Part A, you can test your eligibility for the low-income Health Care Card if you wish to. You can lodge a claim for the card with the Family Assistance Office and if granted, the card also lists your dependants.Regular Care and eligibility for a Health Care Card
If you have regular care of your child (that is if your care level is between 14 and less than 35 per cent of the time), and you no longer receive Family Tax Benefit Part A, you may still be eligible for a Health Care Card as long as you meet the other eligibility criteria. If you are caring for a child who is not your natural or adopted child, you may claim a foster care Health Care Card, which will be issued only in the name of that child.
